Dear Members and Friends of Turkish American Association of Alabama;

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I invite all of you to meet with us to celebrate and to plan for the new year.  We are excited to tell you about all we did in 2009 and what is planned for 2010.

In conjunction with our annual meeting we are going to host an informal get together at the Birmingham International Center offices at 1728 5th Avenue North (across the street from the Federal Courthouse in downtown Birmingham) on January 30, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.

We will serve light refreshments, and you will have an opportunity to meet the membership, other members of the Turkish American community and Friends of Turkey and to learn more about TAAA and its activities.

We sincerely hope you will join us.

This past September, the Birmingham International Center (BIC) held a kickoff reception for Spotlight on Turkey 2010-11. Chairman of Spotlight on Turkey, Orrin Ford, opened the reception with a speech addressed to the more than 150 guests attending the event. The ATAA President, Gunay Evinch, and the TAAA also attended. Spotlight on Turkey’s honorary guest of the evening was the Consul General Akil Oktem from the Turkish Embassy in Houston, Texas. Tony Petelos, mayor of Hoover, and Birmingham Mayor, William Bell, both presented the Consul with keys to the cities. The president of the ATAA (Assembly of Turkish American Associations), Gunay Evinch, also attended.

Spotlight on Turkey aims to educate teachers, students, and the community about Turkish history, cuisine, culture, and art. The program runs from September 2010 until the summer of 2011.
